Puddle Jumping

Who remembers how much fun rain, mud, and puddles can be? Well, I can tell you that they're still fun even for an adult.

After dinner tonight it took us a little time to prepare to go work in the garden. We have a huge problem with mosquitoes and Tay informed me that Off is only 7% Deet. No wonder we get eaten alive even when we drench ourselves in the smelly spray. So tonight, we all changed into long pants, socks, shoes, and even long-sleeved shirts. (Quite a crazy outfit choice for 80 degree weather.)

By the time we got to the garden and started into our tasks, the clouds that had been threatening all day started sprinkling. And then it started a nice downpour. We were sopped! CJ did NOT like the rain dripping on her face at first, but soon learned to spit it off her mouth. We were too close to finishing our tasks to go inside, and we were wet anyway. So, no matter how many times CJ asked to go inside we kept saying, "in a minute." It's a good thing, too. She ended up loving the rain and splashing up and down the flowing ditch with Tay. We did some puddle jumping on sidewalks. Tay's rubber boots can make a splash all the way up to his eyes! I kept my socks dry, but still had a blast. The only way we were able to stop all the fun and convince CJ to come inside was the rain miraculously stopped.

And what did we do with all those dripping long sleeved-shirts and long pants? We didn't want the carpet wet and dirty. You can use your imagination, but the answer has something to do with the pile of soaking clothes that are still sitting in the garage. We're pretty fast runners here, especially without blinds on a few of the windows.

  1. Your dash sounds like my house for a couple of weeks after I moved in, and before the blinds went in. Can you say 2am showers in the dark.
